This is a workspace for a book proposal I am working on. All the work here is just a rough first-draft so I and others can consider the optics of it all.
Comments are always welcome. Photos here are Copyright by their photographers.

For those unfamiliar with this scene, this is the lighthouse in downtown Tionesta, on the Allegheny River and is perhaps the farthest away anyone ever built a lighthouse from a sea going site.
Your suggestions and comments are welcome. Please use the comment box below for ideas you want to share with the rest of the contributors on ways to make a good book. I can also be reached at admin @ theallegheny.comNothing has been decided yet.
The basic idea: take photos from web sites at theallegheny.com and Allegheny Alamanac and translate them into a photo book. Photo books are notoriously expensive and never become bestsellers, however I would work to keep the cover price as low as possible. Hopefully I can do most of the pre-press work myself to offset the prohibitively high cost of printing a color photo book. I have already received a commitment from a supporter to pay for expensive software to do this. But your input is important if this is going to work.
Any profits will go to a local cultural or outdoor group not connected to this organization that would further the aesthetic qualities of the area.
The object is to make a book as good as the photos and the locale depicted. The web sites seem to be working well so I would expect that translating it into a book should work too. If a lot more people get a chance to see how beautiful this area is, then the book will have been a success. It will also promote creative photography and this area as a great place to do it.
The basic operating procedure will be the same as for the web sites. If you contribute a photo(s) each photo will get a photographer's copyright and info on how to contact the photographer, if desired. All contributors get a free copy of the book, which I hope will sell for $20 or less, but you never can tell on these things.
The first step is to get permission from all the great people who have contributed to theallegheny.com and Allegheny Almanac. This will be time consuming, contacting all the past contributors but I think it can be done. If you are a past photo contributor please let me know what you think about being part of the book so I can begin to construct the book around your work. Great photos are always appreciated. If you have something new that is terrific, please submit it! E-mail a jpeg and we'll let you know if we need a hi-res version of it.
