Warren, Pa is beginning to reap the benefits of the Marcellus Shale natural gas boom. A drive along Pennsylvania Avenue in the city shows a new bank building going up, a frack water plant being constructed, and the addition of several new buildings at Betts Industries in the West End.
In addition, there are plans to convert the old Quality Market building on Market Street into a medical mall and a large property near there has been cleared for the construction of a Sheetz super-convenience gas station.
Recent addition of a wildlife heritage fountain at center of town highlights area's outdoors culture. Construction of the art was sponsored by Northwest Bancorp, headquartered in Warren. Land has also been cleared for a housing development at the old site of the Home Street School in Hooktown and homes there are being advertised at around $200,000 each. It is not unusual to see outdoor signs at numerous businesses (restaurants, Whirley Industries, Blair) advertising that they are hiring now.
Recent removal of trees along Pennsylvania Avenue across from St. Joseph school reveals more of the scenic Allegheny River for drivers entering the city.
