Gift of Music

Warren Civic Orchestra starts off its 57th concert season with a free performance of "Sweet Home Pennsylvania," 3 p.m. at the Struthers Theatre, downtown at the corner of Liberty Street and Third Avenue.

The free-admission, pre-holiday program features music by Pennsylvania composers and pieces from the PA Oil Boom. The feature guest orator is the Mayor of Warren, Mark Phillips, who will tell us about composer Aaron Copeland's "Lincoln Portrait." In addition, guest singer Jordan Spencer will perform songs from the Oil Boom and Daniel Weaver from the Drake Well Museum will do a short lecture on the history of the Oil Boom in Pennsylvania.

Orchestra members come not only from Warren County, but from Dubois, Kane, Ludlow, St. Mary's, Clarion, Spring Creek, Oil City, Franklin, Jamestown NY, and Panama NY. Under the current direction of Bryan Eckenrode, the WCO offers its largest ensemble in twenty years. Maestro Eckenrode has provided new direction to the orchestra through his choice of challenging and engaging music, his selection of soloists, and his introduction of dance and theater elements into the orchestra concert programs.
