Warren city police and firefighters closed down the busiest intersection in town momentarily this afternoon during school-time rush hour. The intersection was open once more at about 3:27 p.m.
No flames could be seen from the building but smoke was constantly billowing out from second floor windows on the Market Street side of the structure shown in this photo.
The location of the fire, at the intersection of Market Street and Pennsylvania Avenue sees the most traffic in the city with at least 15,000 cars and vehicles passing by every day. The building owner had reportedly been faced in the past with a code violation for allegedly improper window closures, but the problem had been recently addressed long before today's fire.
Many fire fighters were seen entering the building and opening windows on the second and third floors. The first floor of the building has been used as a coin-operated laundry for at least 30 years.
